Terms of sale

Short, and written to be read. If anything here is unclear, ask us before you buy rather than after.

Who you are buying from

i-LEAD Self Defence NPC, a registered non-profit company, NPO number 218-034, South Africa.

We are a non-profit. The margin on everything sold here funds free self-defence training for women and children.

Prices

Every price on this site is in South African rand and is what you pay for the item. Delivery to a PUDO locker is R150.00 per order, whatever is in it, and free on orders over R500.00; collecting in person is free. The delivery charge is shown before you pay — there is no separate charge added afterwards, and no handling fee.

i-LEAD is not registered for VAT, so no VAT is charged and no tax invoice can be issued.

The total you approve on the payment page is the total. Nothing on this site bills you again later, stores your card, or renews.

Who may buy

You must be 18 or older, and you must be buying for lawful self-defence. We ask you to confirm both at the checkout.

These are defensive tools. Carrying one is lawful in South Africa; using one other than in genuine self-defence is not, and may be an offence under the Dangerous Weapons Act 15 of 2013 among others. What you do with it after it arrives is yours.

We do not sell anything restricted under the Tear-gas Act 16 of 1964. Where a product's contents cannot be established from its label or its supplier, it is not listed at all.

Payment

Payment is taken by Payfast. Your card details are entered on Payfast's own page and never reach this site — we do not see them, cannot store them, and could not charge you again if we wanted to.

Your order is only confirmed when Payfast tells us the payment completed. Until then nothing is reserved and nothing is charged.

Delivery and collection

At the basket or the checkout you choose between delivery to a PUDO locker and collecting in person at no charge. If you collect, we contact you on the mobile number you gave us to arrange a time and place, and you bring identification — these are age-restricted safety products. Some products can only be collected, and are marked so on their page.

We deliver to PUDO lockers across South Africa. You choose your locker at the checkout, and you get a collection PIN by SMS when the parcel arrives. Allow the working days shown on your order for us to pack it, plus the courier's own transit time. Delivery to a PUDO locker is R150.00 per order, whatever is in it, and free on orders over R500.00.

Some products cannot be sent by courier at all and are marked collection in person only on their page. If your basket contains one, we will arrange collection with you directly.

If something you ordered turns out to be unavailable, we refund that part within 48 hours rather than making you wait for stock.

Cancelling — your seven days

You may cancel this purchase within seven days of receiving it, for any reason or none, and get your money back. This is your right under section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002. It is not something we grant and it is not something we can take away.

The item must come back unused and with its seal intact. You pay the return postage; we refund everything else, including what you paid us for delivery, within 30 days.

A pepper spray that has been discharged, or a device that has been used, cannot be returned under this right — it is no longer the thing you were sent. If you are unsure which product suits you, ask us first. We would rather spend ten minutes on email than have you buy the wrong one.

How to return something

If something is faulty

Separately from the seven days above, the Consumer Protection Act gives you six months to return anything that is defective, unsafe, or not what was described, for a repair, replacement or refund — your choice, not ours.

Tell us what happened and we will sort it out. We do not require you to argue.

What we promise about the products

Everything stated on a product page comes from the label, from the supplier in writing, or from something we tested ourselves — and the page says which. Where we do not know something, the page says that instead of guessing.

Several of these products are imported and carry labels in languages you may not read. That is exactly why the product page carries the meaning the packaging does not.

Your information

We keep as little as possible: enough to send you a parcel and tell you it is coming. There are no accounts on this shop and no passwords. What we hold, and why.

Law

These terms are governed by South African law, and any dispute goes to the South African courts. Nothing here limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 — where they say something different from this page, they win.
